@Maxenmus Dismissing a technology like VR which is booming with potential, after playing just one mediocre VR game for 10 minutes at a convention years ago doesn't make sense to me. Just saying dude. You dont know how great it is, nor can you form a decent opinion, unless you've played and beaten some of the more popular higher-tier titles.

But even then, you might not dig it. Some people also get motion sickness and can never get past it. Keep in mind too, that VR headsets will gradually shrink, become slimmer and lighter over time. Meta has already done this with Quest Pro arriving this october. Looks much slimmer than the Quest 2 which launched 3 years ago. So you wont have to be concerned how you look, because you'll be VRn' in style lol

Well, like I said, I might try it in the future, but I still stand by my initial impression, so it's not high on my priority list. It was just my first impression of the VR, and I'm sorry if that upset you, but it is what it is, my genuine reaction.

For what it's worth, when I bought my PS5, I nearly bought a set of VR goggles too, but IIRC, the retail owner told me to wait as the current goggles they had weren't compatible for the PS5 or something, and Sony's coming up with one that is.

But at the end of the day, I guess I just don't like to spend extravagant amount of money for games or hardware I'm halfhearted about, especially when I don't earn much in the first place. That's why I've always been late when it comes to trending games and movies; I would only buy them when I felt like it, or if I have spare cash to spare. I don't like the idea of me buying into the hype of things; it has led me astray before because, as I've learned time and again, what everyone else loves might not be something I personally love.

That does look rather sleek, I'd admit.

@NeonPizza Don't get me.wrong VR is nice, and it's interesting technology and great to see improvemts in gaming but I have always kept things simple. I tried a few things with the Wii motion controls and even Kinect and most of it just seemed gimmicky or like tech demos. Maybe cause it was in its early stages and the hottest Thing, I don't know. Who knows maybe at some point I will try it out again but I am in no rush.

@Tasuki As far as the Wii goes, there was a lot of shovelware(this also applies to Switch too, the eShop is littered with it.) but also a lot of great games if you're willing to dig through the wreckage. It's my 3rd favorite nintendo console of all time, behind the SNES & NES. It had the virtual console which was great for people wanting to either reixperience those 8-16 bit classics that they grew up with or just to experience something they may of missed out on. The service was super nostalgiac and really neat for it's time. And i loved how the Wii remote turned into an NES controller once flipped on it's side.

Plus, the Wii gave birth to the 2D platformer revival which was practically dead on N64 & GCN, with games like Donkey Kong Country Returns, Klonoa, Mega Man 9, Wario land Shake it(Such an amazing game), NSMB.Wii, Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth, Super Paper Mario(if that counts), Kirby's Return to Dreamland etc, and again when motion controls are done right they absolutely breath new life in many genres, and revolutioned the industry imo. Metroid Prime 3 I'd say is the holy moly' grail, basically the epitome, the golden standard for first person Motion pointer controls. I couldn't even stomach going back to Bioshock, Dead Space & Resident Evil 5 etc back on my XBOX360, having to fall back on analog stick aiming felt like a massive step backwards. I just wasn't enjoying it, and it completely downgraded the immersion and intuitiveness 10 fold.

I think i had almost 50+ physical Wii games during it's generation, tons of VC games and a handful of eShop titles. It truly felt like my video game swan song. , that along with the DS Lite, and first two years of the 3DS. God i miss stereosopic 3D, having to go back to the TV with 2D/flat graphics felt so unatural after being accustomed to the 3DS.

Some great wii games >

Metroid Prime 3 Wario Land Shake it! Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 Klonoa Mega man 9 Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth Wario Ware Smooth Moves Elebits Zack & Wiki Sin & Punishment 2 LostWinds Zelda: Skyward Sword Wii Play - (underrated, and fun in short bursts) Wii Sports Resort etc

Did you enjoy the Wii U? I kind of missed out on it, I had one but i barely touched it due to life related stuff and whatever, which lead me to dropping out with modern gaming at around 2013. Didn't get a PS4 Pro until 2019 christmas, and then a Switch & PSVR the next year. That's almost a 7 year break. eek! Out of all the Nintendo consoles the N64 & GCN are a very distant 3rd and 4th place for me. They don't hold a candle whatsoever to SNES & NES. Can't rank the Wii U since i dont have enough experience with it, but plan on rebuying one in the next couple of months.

They still haven't ported over Yoshi's Whooly World, LOZ: Wind Waker HD, LOZ: Twilight Princess HD, NES Remix Pack & Kirby's rainbow curse over to the switch yet. Porting over stuff like Nintendo Land, Game and Wario, and stuff like Wii Fit U would be impossible since you cant translate those Gamepad Features over to Switch.

And speaking of Switch, it has a lot of great games, and I'd also consider it a retro dooders dream. But, the controllers dissapoint me. Be it the Joy-Cons or Pro Controller. Pro controller would of been fine if it didn't have over 12ms of lag comapred to the joy-cons. So now I'm back to those lousy cheap feeling Joy-cons to shave off all of that lag, to get a more responsive lighter 'on the dime' experience, and it's working, just without the great smooth ergonomics and traditional buttons of the Pro.

@Maxenmus I would skip the PSVR1, even if you can get it a decent price and hold out and wait for the VR2. or at least try it. It should be compatible with PSVR1 games, so.

As it is, the PSVR has janky tracking, limited play area, you have to have this rinky dinky camera nesting on your TV, a processor unit with a pile of octopus cables, the calibration process is annoying, then there's the crappy Move controllers(which don't even have analog sticks), the resolution is low, and the ventilation isn't the greatest either. I always had to wait over 20 minutes for the lens to defog after booting it up, but i'd still run into trouble. It's a very cumbersome way to experience VR, there's just too much crap that comes with it and not enough leeway or freedom. Not the case with VR2, it remedies like 95 percent of it's glaring issues.

I still wish Sony could of figured out a way to give the VR2 a super low latency wireless connection to the PS5, being teathered to a wire will suck for stand up VR and those massive Rings on the Controller are totally gonna bang together in-game, when you're trying to plunk ammo into your gun for ex.

Meta's new Quest Pro VR controllers have advanced motion and no rings, it's Wireless(just like Quest 2), and like i pointed out earlier a much slimmer/flatter visor. Aestehtically, the PSVR2 looks dated by comparison. But you wont get 110d FOV, an OLED display, Headset haptics or some of the amazing AAA exclusive titles coming out on VR2 with Quest Pro. Plus it's backed up with way more horse power, unless you have a high end PC to go alongside your quest.

Every family member i showed the PSVR1 too, as dated as it is, were in total awe and fell in love with Ocean Descent. It's a theme park attraction, all you have to do is look around and enjoy the ride which makes it great for so many people out there that don't even like to game to begin with. It's basically universal unless you plan on throwing up in your headset.

"ExcuuuUUUUSE ME, Princess!" Switch Friend Code: SW-1323-8872-2420 I demand Crystal Pepsi & Noid Domino's Pizza!

@NeonPizza See I didn't mind the GameCube especially alot of the third party titles. Titles like Soul Calibur 2 and Simpsons Hit and Run just looked better on the Cube then the PS2 and Xbox. Rampage Total Destruction was awesome. The on Nintendo system I couldn't get into was the N64 except for GoldenEye, Ocarina of Time and the WWE games I really didn't play the N64, it's was all Playstation for me.

I loved the Virtual Console on the Wii and I admit, that was the selling point for me. I totally went to town buying up VC games. Old classics and games that I missed. I will admit I too love how if you tilted the wiimote it became a NES controller. The big games for me on the Wii was

Star Wars Forced Unleashed Mario Kart Wii Wii Sports Resident Evil 4 NSMBW

I am sure there are a few more I am missing but that's all I can remember now. As for Skyward Sword I want to get it on the Switch and try it with the normal controls. I have it on the Wii got the Sepcial Edition that came with the Gold Wiimote and CD but by the time I got it I was so done with waggle controls. Kirby Return to Dreamland is one that I wanted to play but never got around to it.

I did have a Wii U, still do as a matter of fact but to be honest I didn't play it much. The lack of third party support and the fact that you had to rebuy all your VC games again just killed it for me on the Wii U. I think I have 5 games on the Wii U including the pack in game Nintendoland. Heck I didn't even play New Super Mario Bros U till it came to the Switch!! Right after the N64 the Wii U is my least favorite Nintendo system.

Have you tried the Joycons in the holder thing when playing the Switch?

@Tasuki Incoming sea of blabbling text. Get ready for the goosebumps novel of your life. oooo, that was a shady move on Nintendo's behalf, making us rebuy old VC games again on their next console when a simple system transfer would of been totally doable. I'm a bit of an enthusiest and wouldn't even bother buying stand alone VC releases anymore if they were a thing on Switch, simply because of the emulation latency issues combined with my TV's latency. If i'm gonna play NES or SNES games, i'm gonna play them on a CRT Tube TV with the OG Hardware & Controllers.

NES & SNES Online doesn't cut it for me, not only because of the emulation lag(Combined with my TV's 10ms of lag)but because they dont look right on my OLED. Nintendo doesn't give us the option to scale the image down(Arcade Archives allows this) so i wind up with a giant 4:3 image on my 65" which looks ugly and gnarly for older games, or a smaller oddly shapped tapered pixel perfect picture... I need a CRT filter Stat with a smaller 4:3 image, but alas, they dont offer that. Plus NES Online games look dark and colors look completely desaturated compared to the real thing. It's weird, Nintendo still can't get NES emulation right. It was the same deal on Wii & Wii U, but to compensate just stick your TV's color gamut to native and blast the Color to 100. Makes a world of a difference. Anyways, I axed the service on switch, wasn't even using it.

Gotta have that CRT for that epic authenticity, nearly zero latency and just how much better they look on a CRT to begin with. That's the only way i can regain and hit 10% of that nostalgia haha. It's never the same, obviously, but it's the closest you'll get. Decking your place or room out in late 80's/early 90s stuff helps greatly for that authenticity too if you're willing to the extra mile. An 80's Boom box, a kelly Kapowskie poster and an ALF stuffed animal goes a long ways haha.

But ya, on Wii, i was fine with buying VC games, because I played my Wii on a 32" CRT Sony wega SDTV, so there was nearly zero lag for starters and the only latency i had to deal with was from the emulation. Plus it was a CRT, so it was a far better fit.

I remember there being newer Console VC titles hitting the Wii U like Earthbound, Mega Man X3, Gargoyles Quest 2(NES), but the major high lite for me was the GBA & DS Virtual console and playing those on the GamePad. The Wii U's 3rd party support was pretty pathetic, i remeber things feeling all rosey during the Wii U's first year, but after that it was nothing but doom and gloom for poor ol' nintendo. Slim pickings, weird draughts. Still, Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Toad Treasure Tracker, bayonetta 2, Shovel Knight, Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land, Wii Fit U, Super Smash Bros U and a handful of others based on the brief play time i had and then some were all fantastic. There just wasn't enough great games, and the system died off prematurely. The bulky design of the Gamepad, confusing adds and plunking the Wii in the consoles name were poor decisions. Instead calling it the Nintendo U, trimming the bulk off the gamepad and giving it a sleeker design aken to the Switch in portable mode, combined with a 720p HD LED screen could of made all the difference. But alas, history has already been laid out.

BTW, Skyward Sword doesn't have Waggle controls on Wii, they're 1:1 since it's using the Wii Remote Plus.I've heard a lot of people complaining over the Switch version, as expected. You can't get the same level of accuracy and realibity with Gyro motion without a sensor bar, there's no reference, like you'd get with a wii remote and sensor bar. You'll find yourself pressing a realignment button once your cross hair or sword drifts or loses accuracy. This wont happen on Wii, and if it does, it's a rarity.

it's too bad because the switch version looks beautiful, running at 60fps in HD with all of the QOL adjustments. Some people were so frustarted by the inferior motion controls, they instead resorted to the button mapped control scheme and actuallyl found it to be a better alternative. Nowhere near as good as the Wii versions motion controls, but at least with Button mapping you want having to deal with Gyro mucking up on you often. I haven't played SWS on switch yet, but i plan on getting it even if it means having to resort to the button mapped controls. i want both versions since have something different to offer.

Anyways, I actually picked up the Wii version of Skyward Sword 2 weeks ago. Along with Metroid Prime 3(one of my favorite games of all timerz') & Super Monkey balll Banana Blitz(Underrated gem!). Getting some of my favorites while they're dirt cheap.

I had NSMB.Wii, RE4 Wii Edition, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports, but never played Forced Unleashed. RE4 Wii edition was a weird one for me. On one hand, it was the definitive version of RE4 at the time, allowing for both tradition controls, motion controls, the gamecube's visuals and offered the PS2's additional content. But I felt like capcom got it wrong by having this constant white crosshair bouncing and roaming all over the screen at all times, it would even go over top/hover over Leon, which looked really cheap. It's the equivelent to a fly wandering around on your TV screen at all times. They should of ditched the cross hair and opted for the red laser and let you point and aim with that. Aiming worked really well though, but it made the game 10x easier, which is why they should of included the Professional difficulty from the start.

With NSMB, the platforming was great, especially towards the later levels, but unfortunately it was too minimalistic, kind of soulles and bland with it's artistic approach, and recycled a lot of elements and music from the DS original. NSMB fatigue/burn out didn't happen though until NSMB2 and U paved the way. Either way, none of those games compare to the orginal NES trilogy and Super Mario World, during their time and the insane impact they all add. And unlike the NSMB series, they all did an outstanding job at differentiating themselves from one another.

"ExcuuuUUUUSE ME, Princess!" Switch Friend Code: SW-1323-8872-2420 I demand Crystal Pepsi & Noid Domino's Pizza!

@NeonPizza I wasn't too worried about the Wii VC. At the time all my retro gaming treasures were in storage due to me moving around at the time plus at the time I was still rocking a CRT TV I actually didn't get a flat-screen LED TV until midway through the Wii's life cycle. I remember when I first heard that we will be able to play NES, SNES etc games on the Wii I think that was when they were still calling it the Revolution and I thought what an perfect name!!! I remember running over to my friends apartment at the time and declaring that I am going back with Nintendo this gen!! (We both grew up with the big N but the past few years drifted towards Sony).

As for the Wii U yeah I jumped onto the whole Wii U band wagon when it was announced, how could I not be especially after the great job the did with the Wii, even though by the end of the Wiis lifespan it was a torrent of Shovelware. I thought the Wii U was the next evolution of the Wii and was finally able to compete with MS and Sony. Finally going HD output, a tablet so you can still play your game when the TV is in use sign me up, which is why I bought it at launch. Then the problems arose. No third party support, have to rebuy VC games you already bought some VC games weren't allowed and the biggest disappointment the tablet. What was the point of it if I couldn't walk 5 feet away from the console with it?? And what happened with the promise of being able to use 2 tablets on one Wii U (another lie by the great Regginator) Where is Madden, Call of Duty, even GTA Skyrim?? In alot of ways the Switch for me is what the Wii U should have been.

Speaking of the Switch, I do have the Online pass mainly for the VC games I don't play games online and I have to say I am pleased. Funny thing is I haven't played the games on the TV, I play them in handheld mode. I have the new OLED Switch since some no good member of the Foot Clan stole my Switch after my house fire, I figure if I got to get a new one, might as well be the new model! With the OLED the look nice and crisp the colors really pop when I play SMW. My biggest problem with the VC games is I don't like how they drip feed us games, I wish they would give use the whole catalog of games like they did with the Wii 3DS and Wii U and we can purchase them via the eShop individually, but I guess they wouldn't have much of a catalog with companies doing Collections like Konami is with TMNT games.

Back to Wii U (I know my thoughts are all over the place today lol) as I said before I only bought VC games that weren't on the Wii Earthbound being one of them so I can retire my cartridge and a few of the GBA games that I missed. My problem was I didn't like how the GBA games looked on the television, honestly I would have preferred GBA games on the 3DS VC, another odd choice by Nintendo.

Anyway that's all I have for now as I need to get back to work before Burn Thompson comes busting in on a new Turtle scoop!!! Hahaha

I know I'm far from the first person to post this in this thread, but I just bought a Switch OLED on Amazon. This will be my first Nintendo console since the original NES.

I also think this is one of if not my first post here, but I was more into sports games and online for a while, so Nintendo stuff didn't really interest me much after the NES. The PS3 changed gaming for me as I went strictly single player after experiencing some of their glorious single player games. The desire to shake things up and try some new things, especially JRPG experiences like Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the Xenoblade Chronicles series, finally won and I should have my Switch tomorrow. I may not do much with online gaming, but I will still post my Network ID in the proper thread when the time comes.

My first two purchases digitally (since a lot of the games from the last few years and beyond are out of print in the US) will unsurprisingly be Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition tomorrow.

What do you think of these babies? lol

It all started when I first heard that the pre-order and early physical copies of Digimon Survive come with special promo Digimon cards. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case with western countries like America, but Singapore is one of the lucky ones to have such exclusives, so I had to seize this fated opportunity to buy the physical copy, even though I've already bought the game on Steam - which Valve has kindly refunded me just now.

But while there at my local game shop, I went on my obligatory window shopping, see what other games I could buy, so on top of Digimon Survive, I've also bought the two Fire Emblem games on Switch (Three Houses and Three Hopes), plus AI: The Somnium Files, a visual novel I've heard great praises but never found the right moment to buy.

Quite a haul, I would say. Guess I'll be spending quite a bit of time on my Switch! 😆

@Maxenmus Those are some great purchases! I haven't tried the FE games - I plan to, eventually - but have heard great praises, and surely you can't go wrong with either of them. AI: The Somnium Files is easily one of my favorites. It may start out a bit slow (imo), but if you stick to it you're in for a treat. I remember getting some performance issue towards the end though, so I'm getting the sequel on PC 😛
