Whenever you encounter a wild Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamonds and Sparkling Pearls, it is likely to be a "shiny" Pokémon, they are Pokémon with alternative color schemes. Shinies are very popular among players because many people like to collect them. However, the chance of encountering one is astronomical-it is a 1/4,096 chance, which means you have a 0.02% chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon in any given wild encounter. These same odds also apply to your chances of getting a shiny starter or a shiny legendary Pokémon, both of which are available in limited quantities throughout the game. Fortunately, since you can control when you get these Pokémon, you can use a soft reset to retry these encounters until you finally get the precious Shiny Introductory/Legendary Pokémon.
Before a soft reset, save your game before the encounter begins. If you are looking for a shiny starter Pokémon, you will want to save before you and your opponent venture into Lake Verity. For legendary characters, such as Diya Luca or Palkia, you may want to save on the Spear Column immediately before using your version of the Legendary Pokémon. From there they met.
