Editor’s Note: The Fort Leavenworth Lamp has produced exclusively online news content since the June 2, 2022, issue. The following tips provide additional ways for readers to adjust to the digital platform and get the most out of their community newspaper.

The Fort Leavenworth Lamp posts community news, human interest features, achievements and upcoming events and other announcements every week at www.ftleavenworthlamp.com.

Readers are encouraged to share stories from the Lamp’s website and Facebook page.

Shares from users help the Lamp reach a broader audience, make connections and generate leads for stories in the future. Sharing stories from the local community newspaper also allows the people featured in each article to help their families and organizations stay in the know, and stories shared about what members of an organization are doing help promote the organization’s mission and increase visibility.

For those interested in sharing Lamp content, the browser and mobile editions of the newspaper feature icons on each article above each byline that users can click to automatically generate posts, e-mails and messages for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Whatsapp, and Messenger.

Readers can also share stories by copying and pasting the article’s URL to social media posts, e-mails and messages.

Each article also features a newspaper-style PDF layout at the end of each story with options to download and print.

Often people who find themselves or someone they know in an article prefer to have a physical copy for safekeeping or for display. The Lamp team understands that newspaper clippings are a cherished part of print journalism and maintains layouts of every issue online. In addition to this being a readership service, it also assists archivists and researchers.

To access the PDF version of an article, scroll to the end of the story and click the link below the image of the newspaper layout or visit https://publisher.etype.services/Fort-Leavenworth-Lamp. Users can then select the most recent Lamp issue or search the archives and print pages as desired. Page layouts are “tabloid” size at 11×17 inches.

To download a whole issue, click the download icon below the publication. Readers viewing from a browser can download or print individual pages by right-clicking on a layout and selecting an option.

The Lamp’s public digital archive, with issues from the past year, is accessible as a special section at https://publisher.etype.services/Fort-Leavenworth-Lamp/archives.

Users who experience difficulty with web functions should ensure they have the most updated version of their preferred search engine.

Advertisements function as a paid promotion for a company, business or organization, whereas notices, such as those seen in the Lamp’s Post Notes section, inform an audience about an update or event through facts alone.

The Lamp website supports local businesses by offering ad space on its landing page and around each article. CherryRoad Media has a no-cost contract with the Garrison Public Affairs Office to produce the Fort Leavenworth Lamp, and advertising helps pay the Lamp staff members’ salaries and provide necessary equipment.

For inquiries or ad placements in the Lamp, contact Leavenworth Times Multimedia Sales Executive Kathy Heptig at 913-682-0305 or kheptig@cherryroad.com.

To submit a notice about an upcoming event or other public announcement to run in Post Notes or be considered for a Lamp article, e-mail ftlvlampeditor@gmail.com.

The “Answer Book” is a resource guide that the Fort Leavenworth Lamp publishes twice each year. It serves as a one-stop shop for the community to find addresses, phone numbers and information about businesses, organizations and programs on the installation. Sections include information on local healthcare, recreation, education and religious services.

While a few hundred copies are printed and distributed each season, the most recent edition is accessible online from the Fort Leavenworth Lamp homepage under Special Sections in a button titled “Answer Book,” or at the link https://publisher.etype.services/ Fort-Leavenworth-Lamp/e-paper-special- edition/ 730ADAF9 A04F9716.

Readers can also download individual pages and click links in the online edition.

The Lamp thrives through its relationships in the community; story leads often form when people reach out to the newspaper about upcoming events or interesting topics. The Lamp team explores content as much as possible when broached with an idea — sometimes a concept is run in Post Notes as a notice to let the community know about an event or update while others transform into a full-length features about life-changing moments.
