Uber Comfort Electric is a new option from the rideshare company that allows extra-comfortable rides in a new EV. Riders in more than 25 cities can now request an Uber in some of the most popular electric vehicles on the market right now. That includes electric cars like the Tesla Model 3, Polestar II, and even the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

As part of Uber’s Go Get plan, the company announced in May that it would be a  zero-emissions mobility platform by 2040. With Hertz, Uber promised 50,000 Tesla vehicles for rentals by 2023. Now, in addition to that, Uber has introduced Comfort Electric.

“Comfort Electric, our newest way for you to get around town in style and be a part of the climate solution.”

Uber Comfort Electric first appeared in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Dubai. Riders would get a premium EV such as a Tesla Model 3 or Polestar II for the Uber ride. These premium, zero-emissions cars are newer and more comfortable than you might get on a standard Uber ride.

This week, Uber announced a new type of ride in 25 cities across the U.S. and one in Canada. Drivers in cities like Austin and Portland can now request an Uber Comfort Electric ride. Options for the actual Uber have also increased, with riders able to request a Tesla, Polestar, or Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The complete list of cities with Uber Comfort Electric is as follows: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore-Maryland, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Connecticut, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, LA, Miami, New Jersey, NYC Suburbs, Philadelphia, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis, Vancouver (Canada), and Washington D.C.

Uber has received positive feedback from drivers and riders who appreciate the new EV options. It helps save gas money and can help drivers earn more due to the higher ride fare. The rideshare company also says it is giving drivers an extra dollar per completed ride, which can add up to around $4,000 annually. Uber says that during 2022 alone, drivers using EVs “have avoided using over 5.7M gallons of gasoline.”

Tesla, Hertz, and Tom Brady made waves earlier this week when the companies announced the partnership. Tesla plans to supply Hertz with 100,000 Tesla electric vehicles, while Uber will have access to about 50,000 by 2023. Since the partnership with Hertz started, Uber says more than 25,000 drivers have rented a Tesla. Renting a Tesla through Hertz for Uber costs $334 weekly for a 2021 or 2022 EV.

Uber Comfort Electric is live in 25 cities at the time of publication, with more rolling out if all goes well. Give it a try on your next Uber ride if you are out and about.
